T. L. Lange was born in Oil City, Pennsylvania, and raised in the Washington D.C. area. He studied art at Winthrop College in South Carolina for two years then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, because he felt that the only real education he would receive would be the one from artists who were living their profession.
Of his work, Lange said: "I derive the compositions from the beauty of chaos in decay, the colors of rusty pipes, and layers of billboard advertisements. Paintings are everywhere. I keep the studio floor littered with photographs, torn paper, flecks of paint, objects to trip over while looking for something else. Starting with concrete visions, I begin several paintings at a time. I try to allow some form of synchronicity to determine my next decision; making marks for the sake of themselves. Finding purpose in filling the space with time; discovering how to make everything."
Lange's work has been exhibited in numerous galleries, including the Artworks Gallery in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Human Arts Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia. His remarkable artwork can be found in many private, corporate, and public collections including Wentworth Galleries, Larson Juhl Frames, and Saks Fifth Avenue Corporation and Microsoft Corporation.
TL Lange passed away on January 23rd, 2002 at age 37.
