Get Talking About Art in Your City

Going to art meet-ups is an easy, inexpensive and productive way to expand your social circle and nurture your artistic spirit. Whether you create art, collect art or just enjoy looking at and discussing art, there are endless benefits to putting yourself out there and joining an art group, even if just for a few meet-ups. Here is a list of art meet-up groups in cities across Australia.

Pop Up Art Workshops

This art meet-up's goal is to provide a creative outlet for children and adults and to break free from the chains of life's monotonies through the process of making art. The group meets mostly on Sundays at the University of Melbourne in Parkville. It offers a wide variety of workshops and classes such as ribbon-weaving, pottery, and sculpture. Many of the workshops are free, while others are just a small $25 fee.

Port Melbourne Art Club

Located at 384 Bay Street in Port Melbourne, this monthly painting and drawing club is a great place to meet other artists and work on your own art, no matter what skill level you're currently at. The club meets for half a day, and for a $20 fee you have access to all the studio's tools, although you do have to bring your own drawing and painting supplies.

Melbourne Creative Professionals

This group is oriented towards amateur artists who want to take the next step in the art world by becoming a professional artist and making art a career. It is a place for serious artists to talk and exchange ideas about art and help each other become more successful in the often unforgiving world of professional art. In order to find out the location and meeting times of the Melbourne Creative Professionals group, you must first join the group online on the meet-up webpage.

Greater Sydney Art Meet-up Group

Located at 147 George Street, Parramatta, this art meet-up is open to all artists at all levels, especially those interested in oil, acrylic and landscape canvas painting. The group brings in well-known artists to teach techniques and offers workshops on various visual art forms. To learn more about this art meet-up group and any upcoming meetings and associated fees, join the group on the meet-up webpage.

Art Journaling for Women

This club is open only to women, and its focus is creating art journals in any dry art medium, such as coloured pencils, markers, charcoal, crayons etc. No paints or inks are allowed. Create your journal and exercise your artistic talent while eating, drinking, and making friends that share your interests. The club meets in the Toxteth Hotel in Glebe, once a month.

Sydney Inner West Creative Art Workshops and Courses

Located at Scratch Art Space studios in Marrickville, this meet-up is open to anyone interested in making, collecting, or discussing artwork. There are a wide range of workshops and classes offered, such as clay modelling and life drawing.

Grace Art Events West End Life Drawing Social Arts Group

Dedicated to life drawing, this group is a learn-by-doing, live-model drawing club. Rather than having an instructor, the idea of this meet-up is to learn from the other members, and to most of all learn by repeated practicing. The group hires either a nude model or a themed costume model; the $15 fee pays for the cost of this model. The group meets at least once a week at Kurilpa Hall at 174 Boundary Street, West End.

Creative Crafty Mums

This is a group exclusively for expecting or new mothers with creative mindsets who wish to share and bond over their experiences as mothers while creating artwork such as drawing, photography, and other crafts. The group welcomes mothers to bring along their young children to meet-ups.

Creative Professionals Unite Brisbane

This group is oriented primarily towards amateur artists who want to take the next step in the art world by becoming a professional artist and making art a career. It is a place for serious artists to talk and exchange ideas about art and to help each other strive for success. In order to find out the location and meeting times of the Creative Professionals Unite Brisbane group, you must first join the group online, which can be done at the group's webpage.

Adelaide Art Lovers

The Adelaide Art Lovers group is open to any and all lovers of art and art culture. The group hosts exhibits, workshops, and group get-togethers, promoting social creativity. For more information, join the group online at the meet-up's webpage in the link above.

Adelaide Social Crafters

This group is very laid back and essentially offers social interaction through simple arts and crafts. The Adelaide Social Crafters is catered specifically towards women. The crafts offered include sewing, knitting, painting, picture framing, and much more.

Adelaide Photography

This is exclusively a photography-based meet-up for anyone who shares a love of the art of taking pictures. You do need to have your own camera, but it does not have to be state-of-the-art. The group meets at least once a week. There is a small annual membership fee of $5.

The Perth Art and Creative Expression Beginners Meet-up Group

This art group is oriented towards artists who create art for pleasure and self-satisfaction, particularly beginner or inexperienced artists. The meet-ups are casual and participants are encouraged to have fun and explore outside the bounds of typical artistic expression. The cost per meet is between $40 and $60.

Art and Tea in the Hills

Art and Tea in the Hills is all about emanating positive energy and creativity through artistic expression. The group meets at the organiser's house in Perth Hills, and the meet-up fee is a mere $5 to cover refreshments and supplies.
