15 October 1885 – 16 January 1962James Francis "Frank" Hurley was one of five children and was raised in Glebe, Australia. When he was 17 he bought his first camera and taught himself photography. Hurley was a photographer and adventurer who participated in a number of expeditions to Antarctica and served as an official photographer with Australian forces during both world wars.
