Romero Britto was born in Brazil and began drawing at a young age. He originally considered a career in law, but moved to Europe to pursue an artistic career where he sold his paintings on the street. Michel Roux, former US importer of Absolut Vodka, is credited with the launch of Britto’s career in the US when he commissioned the artist in 1989. Britto’s contemporary art uses strong colours with black outlines to create a distinctive neo-Pop style. He combines Pop Art techniques with Cubist compositional qualities. Britto has produced original works for celebrities such as Michael Jordan, Arnold Schwartzenegger and Whitney Houston. He is also a regular donor of his art to charities.
