Les Miles has always been inspired by early Australian artists such as McCubbin, Streeton, Roberts, Drysdale and Hans Heysen. While his subjects include boats, planes, portraits, nudes, landscapes and most recently the Australian Wildlife, most of his inspiration comes from life itself and the fond memories of his childhood visits to his uncles and aunts on their farms in rural Victoria. Les is no stranger to hard times, bringing up three young children on his own (he has been known to paint with a basinet at his feet), and his paintings show an awareness of life's experiences. His work shows a sense of the past with a strong feel for the Australian outback. For the last three years, Les has been concentrating fully on his paintings, with his original works been very well received in Australia as well as New Zealand, Japan and England.
