Art Nouveau is a decorative style that flourished in most of Western Europe and the US from about 1890 through to the first decade of the 20th Century. It was created in reaction to the academic Historicism of 19th Century art. Art Nouveau is an offshoot of Symbolism and the Arts and Crafts movement. Its asymmetrical, decorative style makes use of undulating forms.
Art Nouveau is an international style. Its equivalent in Germany is Jugendstil, in France it is referred to as Modern Style, and in Italy Stile Liberty.
Some Art Nouveau artists include Beardsley, Klimt, Mucha and Tiffany.
