Cubist art depicts real objects. It looks abstract because the objects are flattened onto the canvas so different sides or a shape are seen simultaneously from various angles. Cubist art defines objects in two-dimensional terms. Cubism was founded by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque in the first decade of the 20th century. It was influenced by Negro Art and rejected the use of bright colours.
Some cubist artists include Picasso, Braque, Gris and Leger.
